Volunteer Policies
Swimming is a volunteer sport. Every swim meet, from the beginner meet to the Olympics, is staff entirely by volunteers. Volunteer positions include timers, officials, safety marshals, meet directors, computer operators, hospitality coordinators, announcers, and much more. Each family is responsible for fulfilling the volunteer obligations.
Summer swimming requires LOTS of parent volunteers! This season, we will host 2 home meets that require over 55 volunteers at each meet. We will have 3 away meets that require 35 volunteers. Additionally, we need many volunteers at the championship meet plus volunteers for all of our fun activities throughout the season!
PLEASE DO NOT JOIN A SWIM TEAM IF YOU ARE NOT PREPARED TO VOLUNTEER.
VOLUNTEER REQUIREMENTS:
Each family must earn SIX (6) volunteer credits. Credits can be earned at all swim meets AND throughout the season by hosting a Monday Teen Night or Donut Friday. There are many needs for volunteers at our home and away meets. Some of the jobs are more difficult than others. Our system gives more weight to the more time-consuming volunteer jobs. Therefore, some jobs are worth four credits, others only one. You decide how you get your six.
Sign up for your jobs through our website. There are enough jobs for everyone to complete their requirements during the season, but if your schedule is such that you need to complete your shifts in the early meets, you will need to sign up quickly to ensure you get your jobs in.
If you cannot make the shift you signed up for, you will need to find and send a replacement.
Most positions require a minimum age of 18. There may be a few positions that can be filled by younger teenagers.
Families who do not complete their volunteer requirements or do not show up for a shift or send a replacement will be:
- Fined $100 per credit
- Child will not be allowed to swim at the championship meet
- Family will not be allowed to register for future swim seasons
Please remember there is a wait list of families who would like to be on the swim team and happy to complete their volunteer requirements. If you anticipate this being an issue, consider your participation carefully.
Families can "buyout" their volunteer hours for the season for $400. This will exempt you from all volunteer requirements for this season. The buyout must be paid by May 1 of the current season.
Our volunteer coordinators will keep track of your volunteer credits. You can email them at any time to find out how many credits you still need to fulfill.
